In this spotlight, we get to know Linda Dominguez, CNP. Linda has been a nurse for more than 50 years and is former Chair of the NPWH Board of Directors.

How long have you been practicing?  Where did you go to school?

I have been a nurse for over 50 years! I became a WHNP in 1984. I graduated from the University of New Mexico College of Nursing and the University of Texas Health Science Center.

What kind of practice do you work in?

I work at a women’s health clinic in New Mexico. I have also been on the Board of several women’s health organizations – including NPWH!

Do you have a particular specialty? If so, how did you get interested in that specialty?

Over my long career I’ve done many different kinds of nursing, but I began to specialize in gynecology and women’s health when my profession and my politics began to merge, and then my profession became my vocation. Helping women to recognize in themselves their strength and their health, as well as the key role they play in the health of her relationships, her family, and her community, is critical.

Did you always want to be an NP? What made you want to become an NP? What has your career trajectory been?

I believe that nursing forges strong bonds between the individual and the community and those bonds can weave a network for powerful change. I believe that the role of the nurse practitioner is crucial and central to improving the delivery of healthcare to the nation!

What is one fun fact about you?

In 1992 I received the New Mexico Governors Award for Outstanding Women.
