Vanessa Garcia is certified as a women’s health nurse practitioner and inpatient obstetric nurse. She practices in the Maternal Fetal Medicine high-risk obstetrics clinic at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where she serves on the Perinatal Services Committee, Breastfeeding Committee (to increase breastfeeding rates in the hospital), and Quality Improvement Committee. Her DNP quality improvement project focused on optimization of antenatal hematocrit and hemoglobin to decrease blood transfusions in the postpartum. She is a clinical adjunct for Rutgers University and preceptor for nurses at various educational levels (BSN-MSN). She received the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Special Appreciation Award for outstanding contributions to the education of obstetrics and gynecology residents (2020) and a Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Foundation Scholarship (2022). She volunteers for the New Brunswick High School Health Scholars Program and in community outreach to increase health literacy.
